Article #193 - Temperance

The change in the license system has been of great benefit to the temperance cause, although it was accomplished through the instrumentality of the rum party, who thought their victory certain if they could get it throwed back to the court. But how sadly were they mistaken.

The feelings of the court were not as dead to the cause of humanity as they supposed....

...What a vast deal of misery has been avoided by the witholding of license from those taverns in our county. Many a widows heart has been made glad, the wan cheek marked by sorrow and care has again been illuminated with the smile of happiness. [The court should be made to know] that all their actions for the suppression of rum will meet with a hearty response from all true lovers of order and all seekers after peace.
